Today We Travel are pleased to announce that as from Monday 21 March, they will not be charging cancellation fees [only passing on those charged by the accommodation] and will not be charging deposits for hotels and apartments. If the booking carries any charges for cancellations, these will be shown at the time of placing the online booking.

This means that balances will be due on bookings 14 days prior to the date of travel [with the exception of villas and groups].

Both grandstands are uncovered and offer big screen viewing, which makes it easier for you to keep up-to-date on what is happening at other points of the circuit.

GRANDSTAND J : This uncovered grandstand is situated towards the end of the long pit straight opposite the pit lane exit, providing good views of the racing cars starting to brake for the Elf corner and of the spectacular acceleration of the cars out of the pit lane. You are also presented with a excellent overall view of the main straight as well as good views of the opposite side of the circuit, as the cars exit Seat Corner, all the way down to Wurth Corner. A TV screen is located here, enabling you to follow the entire race and not loose track of the action elsewhere.
PELOUSE [Areas highlighted in green on map] : Known as general admission area, they provide excellent viewing and offer good value for money admission. The Circuit de Catalunya is a naturally hilly circuit featuring a variety of steep mounds, which makes for good viewing in these areas. As always, there are no seats so it is advised to get there early for a good spot.

Iberostar Club Cala Barca Refurbished

The Iberostar Club Cala Barca in Mallorca has reopened after an 18million euro refurbishment.

Built in 1989, the Club Cala Barca is the largest hotel in the Iberostar chain and all rooms have been renovated and some have been made larger, reducing the total of rooms from 779 to 651. The hotel also offers a children's club - a mini club for 4-8 year olds and a maxi club for 9-12 year olds. There is also a teenie club for older children.

There are also new ramps and barriers to make it easier for families with pushchairs to get around. There are more common spaces and a Zen Space spa offering tailor-made treatments to guests.

Easyjet introduce new route to Luxor, Egypt

Easyjet have recently announced that they will run a new route from Gatwick to Luxor starting from 3 November 2010.

Luxor has been named the World's grandest open-air museum, and consists of 3 different areas; City of Luxor on the East side of the Nile, the town of Karnak just north of Luxor and Thebes, which the ancient Egyptians called Waset, which is on the west side of the Nile across from Luxor. Attractions in Luxor include the Temple of Karnak, Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings and many more.

Langham Hotel, London finishes £80 million refurbishment

London's Langham Hotel has revealed it's 25 upgraded luxury suites, along with a second presidential suite in the final stage of an £80 million pound renovation.

Due to demand from international corporate travellers, affluent families and long-stay guests, the hotel have introduced suites, and have spent £4 million on upgrading them. Along with the suites, the hotel have spent £1.1 million creating the Regent Suite, to compliment the existing Infinity Suite.

The suites have one and two bedrooms, and have been redesigned to portray an English residence with touches made such as paisley throws and decorative accessories from Europe and east Asia.

Guests can benefit from butler service and access to the Langham Club Lounges, which serve all day meals and refreshments.

Spanish hotels cheaper than many in Turkey

For the first time in five years, some hotels in parts of Spain are cheaper than similar accommodations in Turkey along with other rival destinations.

The director of the Spanish Tourist Office, Ignacio Vasallo, stated that together with the weaking of the euro and the strengthening of the Turkish lira, it has prompted a shift in pricing. That, along with 12% discounts in four star properties and 15% in three star properties, means that many Spanish hotels are now cheaper than in Turkey.

Vasallo also stated that Spanish hotels have reacted to a booking crisis, making many of them cheaper than those in Turkey for the first time in five years. He also added that the Spanish market this year was down by 6% on 2009, a year which also started badly.

However, this shows an improvement on January this year when sales were 22% behind the same period in 2009, thanks to an increase in the market for couples, which is Spain's strongest market.

Monarch launch Gatwick-Palma service

Monarch have introduced a new schedule service from Gatwick to Palma. It will operate 3 times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, which increases the number of flights operated by the airline to the island to 23 per week.

New flights to Sweden with easyJet

As of the 6th of September, Gatwick will be launching flights to Sweden’s Gothenburg Airport.

The airline’s general manager Paul Simmons has been reported to say “launching the first UK route to Sweden displays our commitment to offering further choice for our passengers”. He also adds “it’s always exciting when a country is added to our long list of resorts we fly to”.

Paul Simmons believes that Gothenburg will be a great addition to the easyJet network for both business and leisure passengers and with that, the total number of routes out of Gatwick is now 81,with more destinations apparently to be announced soon.

La Palma - Canary Islands

La Palma is one of the smaller Canary Islands which is becoming a popular destination for the UK market, an ideal alternative for those holidaymakers who prefer a more relaxed holiday and those who want to avoid the typical touristic resorts that neighbouring islands like Tenerife and Gran Canaria offer.

A survey recently carried out by TripAdvisor revealed that the average Brit clocks up 2 hours and 53 minutes of sunbathing per day on holiday, compared to the Spanish who stay in the sun for less than 2 hours.

When it comes to enjoying a drink or two, Brits are unbeatable with the average person spending 1 hour and 38 minutes daily sampling local ales. Italian holidaymakers were found to be the most conservative, spending less than 1 hour per day in bars.

Roaming charges ... Vodafone to abolish

It has been reported that from 1 June, Vodafone will be aboloshing roaming charges for consumer and business customers. This means that holidaymakers can text, talk and send picture messages for the same price as they would in the UK.

Customers looking to call home for less while on holiday should sign up to the Vodafone Passport service before travelling.

However, on 1 July roaming charges across all networks are due to fall which is as a result of EU ruling.

Tenerife to be Film Location

It has been reported that Tenerife has been chosen as one of the main location for a new Hollywood remake of the Clash of the Titans, starring Liam Neeson as Zeus and Sam Worthington as Perseus. Mount Teide will play host to the bulk of the filming.

Work on the film will start on 15 May and the film is expected to generate approximately 2.5 million euros in revenue for Tenerife.

This is not the first time Tenerife has provided the location for a blockbuster - the island was also used in the filming of Planet of the Apes.

Monkey Zoo Park in Tenerife

If you are taking a holiday in Tenerife this year, you can view some of the island's animals at close quarters by taking a trip to the famous Monkey Zoo Park.

The park [ranked by TripAdvisor users as the best attraction in Los Cristianos]is home to hundreds of animals and visitors can stroll through some of the cages!

There are all sorts of animals in the cages that you can walk through - ranging from ring tailed lemurs, thrugh to iguanas and chickens. Visitors can also feed the monkeys with food available at the park's entrance.

Spain comes to Manchester

This May there's a chance to sample a slice of Mediterranean life in the centre of Manchester, when an exciting new free festival arrives in the city. The centre of Manchester will come alive when more than 200 performers, musicians and entertainers from mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera take to the streets with a progreamme of contemporary and traditional events showcasing the four islands.

For 4 days over the bank holiday weekend [May 1-4], Manchester's famous Albert Square will be transformed into "Alberto Square", with many of the events taking place in a giant perspex pavilion - one of the biggest structures Albert Square has ever seen. This will be used as the main stage, allowing people to see the performances for inside and out, whatever the weather.

Other attractions will include street theatre, jugglers, stilt walkers, dancing, contemporary and traditional music, fashion shows, and Correfoc - daring fire displays, performed by devils on the run!. [article taken from "Living Spain" magazine].

La Feria - Sevilla, Andalucia

Over a thousand marquees fill the centre of Sevilla for a huge party, each one with flamenco dancers, music and a bar. Taking place two weeks after Easter [28 April - 3 May] it begins are midnight on the Monday and finishes 2 weeks later on the Sunday. If a week long party is up your street, this is the place for you. A daily procession of extravagantly decorated horses and carriages carry resplendent girls dressed in flamanco style dress through the streets of the city, a sign that revellry is about to begin. The streets are the location for much of the festivities, until later on when the party moves across the river to largely private casetas [marquees] for drinking, music and dancing until dawn. "Child-Free" Plane Sections

British holidaymakers would like to enjoy some peace a quiet while flying and be seated in an adult-only section.

In a recent poll by TripAdvisor, 79% of Brits said there should be child-free zones on planes. Surprisingly, 71% of parents also think this is a good idea. Almost half of parents admitted that they would let their children miss school in order to take a family holiday, and when it comes to behaviour on holiday, 54% of mothers claimed that their partners are just as difficult as their children to look after!

Blackpool Airport is Britain's Best

When it comes to customer service, Blackpool Airport is flying his above the competition.

In a recent survey carried out by consumer magazine "Which? Holiday", Blackpool Airport received a passenger satisfaction score of 80%, with travellers impressed by the short waiting time and food on offer at the airport.

A spokesman for the airport said that Blackpool invests a great deal of time in training its staff to ensure that those taking holidays are well looked after.

However, some of the country's larger airports did not fare quite so well, with Heathrow's Terminal 1 being named as the worst place in the UK to catch a flight.

Lost luggage

The BBC recently reported that "no-frills airlines can be among the slowest to pay up when they lose or damage passengers' luggage, a report has said".

Apparently with a million bags being lost by carriers in 2007, missing luggage can prove a massive headache for travellers - and airlines are making life unduly difficult for fliers who try to claim compensation, the Air Transport Users Council study found.

Movies can influence choice of holiday destination

It was reported in March 20 edition of Travel Bulletin that "a third of British travellers say they have been inspired to holiday or travel to a destination after seeing it in a film, according to research by travelsupermarket.com", and that this trend was strongest amont the younger generation.

Half of those under 30 have taken inspiration for holiday destinations from the big screen, while a quarter of those over 70 have also visited locations featured in films.

It is said that the top ten "location vacation" destinations are .... Slumdog Millionaire [India], The Beach [Thailand], Australia [Australia], Captain Corelli's Mandolin [Kefalonia], Lord of the Rings [New Zealand], Memoirs of a Geisha [Japan], Braveheart [Scotland], Out of Africa [Kenya], Hideous Kinky [Marrakech], and Ocean's Eleven [Las Vegas].

Age-specific Holidays under threat from Equalities Bill

Travel Weekly has recently reported that "Time is running out for the industry to fight government plans that could spell the end of age-specific holidays and agents selling insurance".

They go on to explain that the Equalities Bill plans to extend age discrimination regulations to include goods and services which would mean that services provided by agents and operators - ranging from insurance to holidays - would be undable to have any age-related restrictions.

This could therefore mean that certain types of holidays, such as those for the over 50s and the 18-30s market could become taboo as they would be considered discriminatory.

The article does explain that the government has agreed to consider exemptions for group holidays.

This is just a small part of the article from Travel Weekly, but what do you think? Surely somebody would rather know before they booked whether a hotel was suited more towards the 18-30s crowd or the older generation.

Changing Money "can be costly"

It has been claimed that holidaymakers who buy their currency at the airport often pay over the odds. Foreign exchange specialist FairFx have said that people who change their money at Heathrow Airport could pay up to 9% more than those who buy through an online provider. Following last week's base rate cut and decision to introduce quantative easing, exchange desks at Heathrow were selling less than one euro to the pound.

Stephen Heath, chief executive of FairFx commented that airport travel money bureax have long taken advantage of travellers who leave buying their holiday cash until they reach the airport by offering far worse rates than outside the terminal.

Airports - the good, bad and ugly

The Air Transport Users Council recently reported that airport security measures and waiting time are getting better. James Fremantle, industry affairs manager at the organisation, said that there was some truth in the suggestion that British airports were not as efficient as their foreign counterparts. However, he added that airports are under a lot of pressure now to improve things. "There are some problems with airports and there has been a lot of publicity about it, but it is not as bad as it seems," he commented.

A recent poll by the CAA revealed that 80% of passengers travelling to destinations such as the Canary Islands, were satisfied with their airport experiences. Of those surveyed, 87% said that they were able to check their luggage in within 20 minutes of arriving.

This got me thinking about my own personal experiences with airports - the worse being on my return from Jamaica. It may have been many years ago, but I will never forget the 7 hour delay encountered at the airport in the middle of summer with just a few fans to help stop hundreds of people overheating [mainly monopolised by mums and their young children], and with more and more people arriving, the coolest place to sit was the floor!
